A and B are two events such that P(A) = 0.56 and P(B) = 0.64, find :
(i) P(not A)
(ii) P(not B)
Answer
(i) We know that P(A) and P(not A) are complementary event.
∴ P(A) + P(not A) = 1
⇒ 0.56 + P(not A) = 1
⇒ P(not A) = 1 - 0.56 = 0.44.
Hence, P(not A) = 0.44
(ii) We know that P(B) and P(not B) are complementary event.
∴ P(B) + P(not B) = 1
⇒ 0.64 + P(not B) = 1
⇒ P(not B) = 1 - 0.64 = 0.36.
Hence, P(not B) = 0.36
