Solve the quadratic equation x2 - 3(x + 3) = 0 and give your answer correct to two significant figures.

Equation :
⇒ x2 - 3(x + 3) = 0
⇒ x2 - 3x - 9 = 0
Comparing above equation with ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get :
a = 1, b = -3 and c = -9.
Substituting values we get :
Hence, x = 4.9 or -1.9
