The quadrants shown in the figure (ii) given below are each of radius 7 cm. Calculate the area of the shaded portion.

Given,
Radius of each quadrant = 7 cm
From figure,
Area of shaded region = Area of square – 4 area of each quadrant
= (side)2 – 4 ×
= 142 –
= 196 – 154
= 42 cm2.
Hence, area of shaded region = 42 cm2.
