Number of neutrons [n] = Mass number [A] – Atomic number [Z]

A → n = 1 – 1 = 0

B → n = 16 – 8 = 8

C → n = 14 – 7 = 7

D → n = 23 – 11 = 12

E → n = 35 – 17 = 18

D is a metal as it has the electronic configuration [2, 8, 1] and will give one electron to attain a stable octet.
