In the given figure, PA = 14 cm, PC = 16 cm and CD = 18 cm, find the length of AB.

From figure,
PD = PC + CD = 16 + 18 = 34 cm.
We know that,
If two chords intersect, then the products of the measures of the segments of the chords are equal.
∴ PA × PB = PC × PD
⇒ 14 × PB = 16 × 34
⇒ PB =
⇒ PB = 38.86 cm
From figure,
⇒ AB = PB - AP = 38.86 - 14 = 24.86 cm
Hence, AB = 24.86 cm
