Given,
a - 1, a + 3, 3a - 1 are in A.P.
⇒ (a + 3) - (a - 1) = (3a - 1) - (a + 3)
⇒ a - a + 3 - (-1) = 3a - a - 1 - 3
⇒ 4 = 2a - 4
⇒ 2a = 8
⇒ a = = 4.
Hence, Option 2 is the correct option.
