Answer

The above equation, 3y = 12 - 2x can be written as :

⇒ 3y = 12 - 2x

⇒ y = 1232x3\dfrac{12}{3} - \dfrac{2x}{3}

⇒ y = 4 - 2x3\dfrac{2x}{3}.

When x = -3, y = 4 - (2×3)3=463\dfrac{(2 \times -3)}{3} = 4 - \dfrac{-6}{3} = 4 - (-2) = 6,

x = 0, y = 4 - 2×03=40\dfrac{2 \times 0}{3} = 4 - 0 = 4,

x = 3, y = 4 - 2×33\dfrac{2 \times 3}{3} = 4 - 2 = 2.

Steps of construction :

  1. Plot the points (-3, 6), (0, 4) and (3, 2) on the graph.

  2. Connect any two points by a straight line.

Observe that the third point lies on the straight line.
