Which of the cables, one rated 5 A and the other rated 15 A will be of thicker wire? Give a reason for your answer.

The thicker wire is the one which is rated 15 A.
In order to carry heavy current, the resistance of wire should be low, so it's area of cross section should be large. Therefore, as large current is passing through the second wire hence, it will be thicker.
