Steps of construction:

  1. Draw a line segment AC = 5 cm.
  2. Draw its perpendicular bisector XY bisecting it at O.
  3. From XY, cut off OB = OD = 52\dfrac{5}{2} = 2.5 cm.
  4. Join AB, BC, CD and DA. Then ABCD is the required square.
