Answer

We know that,

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

Area of square = side × side.

From figure,

Area of shaded portion = Area of rectangle ABCD + Area of rectangle PQRS – Area of square LMNO

Substituting values we get,

Area of shaded portion = AB × AD + PR × RS - LM × MN

= 50 × 5 + 35 × 5 - 5 × 5

= 250 + 175 - 25

= 400 m2.

Hence, area of shaded region = 400 m2.
