Carbon is made up of only one kind of atom, Carbon dioxide is made up of two kinds of atoms i.e., Carbon and Oxygen [CO2].
Carbon cannot be broken down into two or more simpler substances by physical or chemical means. Carbon dioxide can be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means only.
Carbon has its own set of properties. Properties of Carbon dioxide differ from the properties of carbon and oxygen.
