Geographical conditions required for the growth of rice are:

  1. Rice is a kharif crop which requires hot and humid climate for cultivation.
  2. It requires high temperature above 25°C.
  3. High humidity with annual rainfall above 100 cm are favourable for the growth of rice.
  4. It is grown in the plains of north and north-eastern India, coastal areas and the deltaic regions.
  5. In the areas of less rainfall like Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan, it grows with the help of irrigation.
  6. Rice cultivation requires flat terrain because it needs standing water through out most of its life cycle.
