Answer

(a) L + w = 2T and E = T

So, L = 2T - w

Mechanical advantage

= LE\dfrac{\text{L}}{\text{E}}

= 2T - wT\dfrac{\text{2T - w}}{\text{T}}

= 2 - wT\dfrac{\text{w}}{\text{T}}

= 2 - wE\dfrac{\text{w}}{\text{E}}

Hence, mechanical advantage = 2 - wE\dfrac{\text{w}}{\text{E}}

(b) An inclined plane

(c) No, a single fixed pulley does not help in multiplying force. It only helps us to change the direction of effort to be applied in a more convenient direction.
